The short version

Built on empty roads and full hearts

It started with four of us and a thermos of filter coffee.

In 2019 we were tired of running alone — dodging traffic, quitting at 3km, wondering if we were doing it right. So we picked a lamppost near Sankey Tank, set an alarm for 4:45, and told a few friends to show up. Eleven did.

Six years on, Tarmac is a crew of over four hundred runners who believe the same thing: the road is easier when someone's beside you. We pace the nervous first-timer and the sub-3 marathoner in the same breath, because pace is personal but the start line is shared.

No membership needed to try — just lace up and turn up.

The sessions

Six ways to run the week

Every session is coached, every session has pace groups. Rock up to one or string them together into a training block — your legs, your call.

/ 01

Tempo Tuesday

Controlled discomfort. Sustained efforts on the flat stretch past the lake to lift your threshold and teach your body to hold a hard, honest pace.

Tue · 5:30am6–10 kmAll paces
/ 02

Track Night

Intervals under the floodlights at Kanteerava. 400s, 800s and mile reps split into pace pods so nobody's left running solo. Bring your best 200m.

Wed · 7:00pmIntervalsSpeed
/ 03

Threshold Thursday

Cruise intervals and progression runs for anyone building toward a race. Slightly longer, slightly meaner — with a coach calling every split.

Thu · 5:45am8–12 kmRace prep

Long Run Saturday

The heartbeat of the club. Point-to-point routes across the city, pace groups from 5:30 to 7:30 min/km, and coffee waiting at the finish. Always free to visitors.

The maps we love

Signature Bengaluru routes

Traffic-light, tree-lined and marshalled at every turn. Distances shown are the full loop — bail-out points on every route for shorter days.

Sankey Loop

5 KM

Flat lakeside laps around Sankey Tank. Shaded, smooth and forgiving — our default for beginners and recovery days.

Finish-line stories

From first 5K to PB city

Real runners, real mornings. The clock is nice, but the crew is the reason people keep coming back.

I couldn't run a kilometre without stopping. Ten months with First Strides and I crossed my first half-marathon line. I ugly-cried. No regrets.
Sneha KulkarniMember since 2023 · First half in 2:14
Track Night knocked four minutes off my 10K. But honestly I show up for the people — I moved cities and this crew became home in three Saturdays.
Daniel RozarioMonthly Crew · 10K PB 44:38
At 52 I thought my racing days were behind me. The coaches paced me back to a marathon. Age is just a number they refuse to look at.
