The Shastra Way

A dojo, not a drop-in gym. We teach the art before the fight — posture, breath, patience, and then power.

"Shastra" is the Sanskrit word for a disciplined art carried with intent. We named the academy for it because striking and grappling are, at heart, a study — of leverage, of timing, of your own composure under pressure.

Founded in 2015 on a single mat in Koramangala, Shastra has grown into a full training floor without losing the etiquette that makes a dojo work. Beginners are coached, not thrown to the wolves. Competitors are pushed, not coddled. Everyone bows in the same.

01
Respect first

Bow in, shake hands, drill honestly. The mat only works when everyone protects each other.

02
Fundamentals forever

Belts change; the basics don't. We build your base until it's boring — then unbreakable.

03
Show up

Consistency beats intensity. Three honest sessions a week will change your year.

The rank path

Earn every stripe

Belts aren't bought at Shastra — they're tested for. Our BJJ syllabus follows the IBJJF adult grades, and each rank is awarded on mat time, technical exams and how you carry yourself with training partners.

Most students take their first grading around the four-month mark. Your coach will tell you when you're ready — and exactly what to sharpen before you are.

The path is long by design. What matters is the next stripe — not the belt at the end of it.

Your coaches

Led by people who compete

Every head coach at Shastra still trains, still spars and still steps on the mat with students. Credentials matter — but so does the ability to teach a first-timer.

On the record

What the mat gives back

I walked in unfit and self-conscious. Eight months of BJJ later I'm calmer under pressure at work than I've ever been. The coaching is patient and genuinely technical.

Tried three gyms in Bengaluru before this. Shastra actually teaches Muay Thai — clinch, timing, real pad rounds — instead of just cardio kickboxing. Dropped 9 kg and gained a hobby for life.
Arjun RaoMuay Thai · 1 year in
My son was shy and got picked on. The kids' class gave him focus and quiet confidence — and the coaches never let it turn into aggression. He's a different, happier kid.
