Stone-ground matcha,
and a room made for stillness.

We whisk each bowl to order, pour tea slowly, and leave the noise at the door. Sit a while.

A single grade of matcha, treated with care.

Nara began after a long apprenticeship in Uji, the old tea country south of Kyoto, where our founder learned that good tea asks for very little — clean water, a steady wrist, and time.

We import shade-grown leaf, stone-mill it in small batches, and keep the room deliberately plain: pale wood, a low bench, one window of soft light. Nothing to hurry you along.

There is no music playing. There is no rush to your table. Order a bowl, watch it foam, and let the afternoon go quiet for a moment.

Know your grade

Matcha is not one thing. Grade decides how it is whisked, how it tastes, and how it is meant to be drunk. Here is how we sort ours.

Ceremonial matcha

The youngest, greenest leaves, stone-milled fine. Whisked with water alone — no milk, no sugar — for usucha and koicha. This is matcha at its most honest.

Best drunk: as a bowl, slowly

Sencha

Whole-leaf green tea, steeped rather than whisked. Bright and grassy at a low temperature; steep it hotter and it turns bracing. Forgiving and everyday.

Best drunk: through the afternoon

Hojicha

Green tea roasted over charcoal until amber. Nearly caffeine-free, warm and nutty. The cup we pour for guests who want to stay past sundown.

Best drunk: in the evening

Ananya Rao

Founder & Head of Tea

Ananya trained for three years in Uji, Kyoto, and holds a certificate in chadō from the Urasenke tradition. She sources every leaf herself and still whisks the first bowl of the day, every day the house is open.

“I am not trying to impress anyone. I am trying to give you five quiet minutes.”

What guests carry home

The usucha was the best I have had outside Japan, and the room is so calm I lost track of an entire afternoon. My new hiding place in the city.
— Sneha Reddy, Banjara Hills
I came for a matcha latte and stayed for the ceremony. Ananya explains just enough and then lets the tea do the talking. Utterly unhurried.
— Karthik Menon, Kondapur
No screens, no loud music, no one rushing you to leave. The hojicha and a slice of sesame cake became my Sunday ritual.
— Fatima Qureshi, Gachibowli
