Barefoot cooking, the Konkan way

We started with two hand-built tables, a charcoal grill, and a bottle of village feni.

Feni & Fern sits on the soft sand below Ozran headland, where the Anjuna crowd thins out and the fishing boats still come in at first light. Every morning we buy what the boats land — kingfish, mud crab, tiger prawns — and cook it simple: recheado butter, roasted coconut masala, curry leaves and lime.

The kitchen runs all day, so you can roll in for chorizo pão at breakfast or a slow crab xec xec at midnight. And the bar? It runs on feni — Goa's own cashew spirit — poured long, cold and citrus-bright.

The bar runs on feni

Feni is Goa's own spirit — twice-distilled from cashew apples, sharp and floral. We pour it long and citrus-forward, alongside cold-pressed coolers for the little ones and the driving crowd.

The cook at the grill
I don't fuss with the fish. If the boat's done its job, my job is just fire, salt and lime.”

Chef Reuben Faleiro

Founder & head cook, Feni & Fern

A Saligão-born cook who spent twelve years in coastal kitchens from Ashwem to Lisbon before lighting the Feni & Fern grill in 2019 — and still buys the day's catch off the boats himself.

Word from the sand

Regulars keep the corner table warm

“The rava kingfish and a Feni Sundowner right at low tide — I've booked the same corner table three years running.”

Aisha Menon

“Tastes like the Goa my mother always described. The crab xec xec alone is worth the flight from Lisbon.”

Tomás Ribeiro

“Came for sundowners, stayed till the tide came in. Warmest little shack on Anjuna, hands down.”
